History
The terrace of houses in Beaufort East were designed and laid out by John Eveleigh for Messrs. Gunning and Tanner who were local developers of the time. Eveleigh was active in the local area in the early 1790s, also designing the schemes for Grosvenor Place and Lambridge Place. In the original plan of 1792 the ashlar-fronted dwellings were four-storeys high above ground, with a basement storey for kitchen and offices. Building work on Beaufort East started in 1792, and continued after Eveleigh’s departure of Bath the following year. Building of the whole terrace was completed by 1827.
